DOMAINE ALAIN GRAS
Alain Gras has been working passionately since 1979 with a great respect for the land. This is an exceptional terroir, situated atop of a hill which benefits from a limestone-clay soil that forces the vine roots to descend deep into the bedrock to obtain the nutrients they need.
The domain now extends over 12 hectares, primarily located in Saint Romain, Burgundy, with both whites and reds, in Meursault and Auxey Duresses. Alain has long been acknowledged as the pre-eminent vigneron in Saint-Romain – where the vineyards are a greater proportion of limestone than any other commune in Burgundy. Saint Romain has also benefited greatly from recent climate change – meaning that previously overly cool sites, due to their high altitude, are now routinely achieving full ripeness and physiological maturity.
